Saturday in Paris

- A day too cloudy for pictures, and perfect for just walking around, doing nothing.

Took a leisure walk from Place St-Michel to Les Invalides and Tour Eiffel. Final stop at Trocedéro for the best view of the Eiffel. 4 hours in all including lunch at Paul's, very walk-able!

"Stoning" after 40mins in the RER
For a trip to Notre-Dame,Paris from Supélec, we'll need to take the RER B from Le Guichet to St-Michel. Each trip cost 4E/pax, but could be cheaper if we are less than 26 years old, or we could buy a book of 10/20 tickets. (More info on transport after jump-break)

We also found out that Ticket T+ cannot be used on return trips on the same bus, only for connections within 1.5 hrs from validation. Can't be used on RER out of zone 1 too!

Lunch at Paul Boulangerie

Macarons at 7E for 4, trés cher!

Resting on a wall of Les Invalides

J'aime Paris!
Excusez-moi, Ms. Orange...

This certainly looks more reliable than the trishaw

Enjoying our glace amidst the cold weather. Wasn't easy to find ice-cream here in winter though. Unlike Italy, whereby Gelato shops are abundant in the streets, and there are more flavours to choose from.

In France, less is more, only vanilla, chocolate and the berry flavours to twirl with.

Having been to Romantic Paris with 2 men at 2 different occasions, both have taken the same picture of me, same background and same spot. I conclude that Eiffel is indeed a place you should visit only with a romantic partner!

Information on Transportation from Supélec to Paris (Zone 1) on a WEEKEND

On Saturdays:
From Moulon bus stop, take bus 269.02 to Le Guichet RER B. You'll have to walk up a slope to reach the train station, which is not visible from the bus stop at Le Guichet. Suggest you ask the bus driver for the direction to walk, if there are no one to follow. Bus drivers in Gif are usually very helpful, they will even stop to help pedestrians who looked lost!

Purchase a single trip to Paris via the machine, if not the lady at the counter is friendly enough to guide you through. Each single trip is 4Euro, can be cheaper if you buy in 10s or if you are below 26 years old. it takes about 40 mins to reach Zone 1 in Paris. Remember to get a copy of the RER/Metro guide at the train station, the pocket sized version is very handy!

Schedule for ligne 269.02 as below. Frequency in the weekends is miserable, if you miss the bus, you can choose to walk about 30mins from Le Guichet to Supélec.

Shortest route to walk (but very steep): Rue de Versailles - Rue de la Coline - Chemin du Bois des Rame - Rue Louis de Broglie - Rue Joliot Curie. This is a stretch of residential estate to reach the top of the plateau (check out in google map).

On Sundays:
269.02 have no service, so you'll have to take ligne 91.10 from Albatrans to reach Massy-Palaisseau. I've not tried taking the bus yet, but can verify that the frequency is every hour (I can see the bus from my room). Note: The bus number is 91.06 during the weekdays. 91.10 is only for the weekends, if not only for Dimanche.

Schedule for reference:

(Refer to Albatrans' main page for summer schedule)

Ticket T+:
We are currently relying on ticket T+ to get around until our driver's permit is settled. You can purchase it at the train stations, Euro 12.70 for book of 10. If not, single trip purchase from the driver is Euro 1.90. Within Zone 1 in Paris, you can use it for all modes of transport, including RER within the zone. However, since Supélec is in Zone 5, we can only use it on the bus.

In the website, it is stated that you can use the same ticket for connections within 1.5 hrs from the 1st time you board the bus. We have tried to use the same ticket to connect with the same bus, verified that this is not possible. (we took 269 home, drop our things and tried to take the next bus to the train station, in case you are wondering why we connect with the same bus...:p)
